About this race
Ultra Wanaka's half marathon, officially 21km, is a point-to-point trail course that starts at Dublin Bay and finishes at the event hub on the Wānaka lakefront, with mandatory bus transport from the hub to the start. The route winds around the start of the Clutha River and follows public tracks along the Lake Wānaka shoreline and the Upper Clutha River, on runnable, well-maintained and flowing single track. It is run almost entirely on unsealed trail, with only a small share of sealed surface. The profile includes a climb in the first few kilometres, followed by a long, flat run beside the river and the lake to the finish. The event is cup-free, so runners carry their own cup or bottle for the aid stations, and Ultra Wanaka is hosted by Thymed Events NZ.
