About this race
The Motatapu Trail Marathon is a point-to-point race from Motatapu Station near Glendhu Bay on Lake Wānaka to Wilcox Green in Arrowtown. The course crosses the Motatapu, Soho and Glencoe high-country stations, which are opened to the public only for this event. The first few kilometres follow a wide gravel road, before the route moves onto smooth 4WD gravel farm tracks and a firm 4WD farm trail through the Motatapu Valley, with gravel and grass underfoot and many stream crossings. The profile climbs steadily over the first two thirds to the high point of the course, then descends through the final third. The final 6km follow the Macetown Track, which winds high above the Arrow River before dropping down to it, and the last 3km cross the Arrow River numerous times before the finish beside Nairn Street in Arrowtown.
