About this race
The Craters Trail Run Half Marathon is run on the purpose-built mountain bike trail network of Craters Forest in Taupō, starting and finishing at the festival hub beside the Waikato River. The route links mountain bike tracks and pine-needle single track through the forest, with some forest road sections joining the trails together. The course is entirely unsealed, with no sealed surface. The profile is hilly, with a long climb to the high point of the course around the halfway mark, followed by a lower, rolling run back to the finish. The half marathon is the longest of the Craters Trail Run distances, run on the Saturday of the Taupō Trail Festival weekend, and it is organised by TotalSport. The surrounding forest is a mix of exotic plantation and native bush, with the trails weaving over small hills.
