About this race
The Lochmara Lodge Half Marathon starts at Anakiwa Wharf, reached by a scenic catamaran cruise from Picton, and finishes at the restaurant at Lochmara Lodge on Lochmara Bay, in the Queen Charlotte Sound. The course follows sections of the world-famous Queen Charlotte Track, a coastal and bush walking trail through the Marlborough Sounds, with runners taking in an additional loop around Tirimoana that walkers can bypass by heading north directly to the lodge instead. Underfoot the track mixes native bush, coastal forest and harbour views, with the undulating, narrow trail character of the wider Queen Charlotte Track rather than a flat road surface. Water stations are set up at the start in Anakiwa, at Mistletoe Bay roughly midway along the route, and at the finish. After crossing the line, runners are rewarded with a barbecue lunch at the lodge before a return cruise back to Picton across the sound.
