About this race
The Routeburn Classic is a 32 km point-to-point trail run along the Routeburn Track in Fiordland National Park. The race starts just north of Lake Fergus, about 500 metres before The Divide, and finishes at the Routeburn Shelter across a bridge near the car park. The course climbs through lush native bush and alpine terrain, passing Lake Mackenzie and Mackenzie Hut before crossing Harris Saddle, the high point of the route. From the saddle, a rocky, technical descent leads down to the Routeburn flats, where runners run past waterfalls to the finish. The route spans two national parks, including the Fiordland World Heritage Area, and is run on rugged natural trail that is almost entirely dirt. There are two aid stations on the course, a 7-hour time limit applies and entries are limited to 400 runners.
