About this race
The Rotorua Off Road Half Marathon is run in Whakarewarewa Forest, starting and finishing at the Waipa Sawmill Recreation area next to the Waipa MTB carpark. The course is two laps of a 10.5km loop that winds through pine-needle trails and past the mud pools, before following the Lion Trail and climbing to Red Tank Road, the high point of the course. Parts of the loop use forest roads such as Katore Road and Nursery Road, with gentle stream crossings along the way. The surface is almost entirely forest trail, with soft forest floor and packed dirt, and only a small share of sealed surface. The profile is rolling, with several climbs on each lap, so runners cover the main climb to Red Tank Road twice. The half marathon starts at 10:00am and has four aid stations.
