About this race
The Taupō Marathon starts on Tongariro Street and finishes at Tongariro Domain (Great Lake Centre) in Taupō. The course heads down Tongariro Street and Roberts Street, then begins the first of two laps of the half marathon course, with an added loop through the Ngāroto Estate subdivision. Runners head out to the airport roundabout, turn right onto State Highway 1 and continue to Five Mile Bay, before returning along the Great Lake Pathway, about 10 km of lakeside path with views of Lake Taupō and the mountains. At Te Ātea Tapuaeharuru they turn around for the second lap and return to Tongariro Domain to finish. The course is AIMS certified, mostly paved, and the profile is flat to gently rolling, with one noticeable climb on each lap.
