About this race
Emerson's Dunedin Marathon starts at the Portobello Recreation Reserve and heads north-east up the Otago Peninsula. The route turns around between Penguin Place and Te Rauone Reserve, then heads back down the peninsula. It continues beside Otago Harbour, crossing the Andersons Bay causeway and following Portsmouth Drive towards the city. The finish is outside Emerson's Brewery after runners cross the railway bridge and go down the Ward Street ramp. The course is AIMS certified and almost entirely on paved roads and paths. The profile is largely flat and coastal, with a handful of short, sharp rises along the way. The event is organised by Caversham Harrier and Athletic Club, the shorter races start from the Caledonian Ground on Logan Park Drive, and all distances share the same finish.
