About this race
The Run The Forest Half Marathon, known as the Pohutu Geyser Trail, starts at Te Puia at the foot of Pohutu Geyser in Rotorua and finishes at the event hub in the Government Gardens on the shore of Lake Rotorua. The route winds through geothermal landscapes and the trails of Whakarewarewa Forest, including the Redwoods, before leaving the forest and heading into the city past Sulphur Point to the finish. The course is mostly unsealed forest trail, with a smaller share of sealed path and road. The profile is hilly through the forest, with two main climbs, before a long descent to the lakefront and a flat final stretch. It is a winter trail event, with participants able to run, jog or walk, and the finish area has live music, drinks and blankets.
