About this race
The Runaway Hawke's Bay Marathon starts at Anderson Park on York Avenue in Greenmeadows, Napier, and finishes at Elephant Hill Estate & Winery near Te Awanga. Runners head down Westminster Street onto Wharerangi Road and Church Street, then run around the base of Park Island and join the Prebensen Drive bike paths to follow the limestone trails around the Ahuriri Estuary. The course crosses the old rail bridge, passes through Westshore, crosses Pandora Bridge and passes the Port of Napier before following the Napier coastline to Waitangi Regional Park. It continues south past the Clive River and the Tukituki River mouth to Haumoana, finishing along Beach Road and Clifton Road. The surface is roughly half hard-packed limestone Hawke's Bay Trails and half sealed road and path, and the course is flat with easy running.
