About this race
The Merrell Race Tekapo 50k is a loop that starts and finishes at the Village Green in Lake Tekapo. Runners follow the lakeside path to Tekapo Springs, then climb Mt John and run its ridge top before descending farmland and a 4WD track to Godley Peaks Road. The route continues along the lakeside trail past Lake McGregor and Lake Alexandrina, then climbs back up Mt John before descending trails and paths to the village. The course also takes in the forest of the Lake Tekapo Regional Park and the Lagoon Loop on Sawdon Station, private farmland that is accessible only during the event. The surface is mainly farm road, 4WD track and single track, with short stretches of sealed road and gravel. The profile is hilly, with a steep Mt John climb that involves a lot of walking.
