About this race
The Merrell Race Tekapo 16k starts and finishes at the Village Green in Lake Tekapo, leaving town past the Church of the Good Shepherd and following the lakeside path to Lilybank Road. Runners climb Cowans Track into the Lake Tekapo Regional Park before entering Sawdon Station's Lagoon Loop, a clockwise loop of around eight kilometres across open farmland that is marked by blue poles. After returning to the park gateway, the course continues on the John Hay, Genesis and Alpine Energy tracks and Cox's Line, then crosses Lilybank Road and heads back to the Village Green. The surface is almost entirely unsealed, about half farm road or 4WD track and half easy single track. It is described as the flat option of the Race Tekapo events, with two modest climbs and views over Lake Tekapo and the Mackenzie Basin.
