About this race
The Devon Mile closes the Coastal Five weekend at midday on the Sunday, returning for 2026 to its traditional home on Devon Street in central New Plymouth after a period held at New Plymouth Raceway. The out-and-back course starts and finishes at the city's landmark clock tower, heading down Devon Street, the city's main thoroughfare, to a turnaround near Gover Street before runners retrace their steps back to the tower. Run entirely on sealed city streets closed to traffic for the event, the mile is flat and fast, drawing a mix of serious milers chasing a personal best and families or children taking part in a shorter, more accessible distance. As the final and shortest of the five Coastal Five stages, it provides a lively, spectator-friendly finish to the festival, with crowds gathering along the street to cheer runners through the closing event of the weekend.
