About this race
The Merrell Race Tekapo 32k starts and finishes at the Village Green in Lake Tekapo. After a short out-and-back across the footbridge past the Church of the Good Shepherd, runners return to the village and follow paths to Tekapo Springs before climbing Mt John, through forest and up steep tussock to the summit. The route runs the ridge past the observatory and café, crosses a stile and descends farmland to the Hitching Post, then follows a farm 4WD track to Godley Peaks Road. It crosses the dry lakebed towards Lake McGregor and follows the trail beside Lake Alexandrina for about five kilometres before turning back and climbing towards Mt John again. The finish comes via a descent of Mt John on trails and paths to the village. Surfaces are a mix of single track, farm tracks and sealed road, and the profile is hilly with steep climbs.
