About this race
The Te Puia 10K starts at Te Puia and finishes on the Rotorua lakefront. Runners begin on the geothermal pathways at Te Puia, passing the Pōhutu Geyser, before entering Whakarewarewa Forest and its Redwoods. The route climbs steadily on forest tracks to a high point around the halfway mark, then descends through the forest and leaves it for the pedestrian walkways that lead to the lakefront. The surface is a mix of paved path and forest trail. The final few kilometres are almost entirely flat, running along the walkways towards the lake, and the finish is on the lakefront. The course combines geothermal scenery with forest running. Te Puia is known for its geysers and steaming geothermal ground, which makes for a distinctive start to the race.
