About this race
The Tarawera Ultra-Trail 23k is a point-to-point course that starts on the shore of Lake Tarawera and finishes on the Rotorua lakefront. From the start the route heads north-west on forest trails, passing Lake Okareka and rolling through native forest with a series of modest climbs. After the highest point of the course, a big descent leads out of the forest and through the Redwoods into the outskirts of Rotorua. The final stretch is flat and follows paths through the suburbs and parkland of Rotorua to the Village Green on Lakefront Drive, where the race village is based. Mostly trail with some paved sections, the course is runnable throughout, and like the longer races it is part of the UTMB World Series and earns one Running Stone.
