About this race
The Run The Forest 10k, the Geothermal Traverse, starts at the Whakarewarewa Living Māori Village and finishes at the event hub in the Government Gardens on the shore of Lake Rotorua. It begins among the geothermal pools and steaming ground around the village before heading onto manuka-lined trails and into the Redwoods of Whakarewarewa Forest. The course then leaves the forest and follows the shared path towards the lake, passing Sulphur Point on the way into the city centre. The surface is mostly unsealed forest trail with some sealed path and road. The profile gradually climbs through the forest to a high point around the middle of the course, then descends to a flat finish by the lake. Participants can run, jog or walk, and the finish area has live music, drinks and blankets as part of this winter trail event.
