About this race
The Pukeiti Climb 10km opens the Coastal Five festival's second day with an early start from Pukeiti Botanical Gardens, in the hills southwest of New Plymouth. The out-and-back course follows Carrington Road, a winding scenic drive through farmland and native bush on the slopes of Mt Taranaki, with the route climbing and descending repeatedly as it works its way along the road before turning back towards the gardens. Runners cross several small bridges and navigate tight curves along the way, with the undulating profile and sealed-road surface making it the hilliest of the festival's five stages. Clear mornings offer views back towards the mountain and out over the surrounding countryside. Starting at 7am, the climb gives entrants attempting the full five-race combined marathon their toughest test of the weekend before the field heads back into the city for the lower-key Devon Mile later that day.
