About this race
The Craters Trail Run 6k is run on the purpose-built mountain bike trail network of Craters Forest in Taupō, starting and finishing at the festival hub beside the Waikato River. The route links mountain bike tracks and pine-needle single track through the forest, with some forest road sections joining the trails together. The course is entirely unsealed. The profile is rolling, with a steady climb to the high point of the course about a third of the way in, followed by a long descent and a gently rolling run to the finish. The 6k can be run or walked and is the shortest of the main Craters Trail Run distances, held on the Saturday of the Taupō Trail Festival weekend, and it is organised by TotalSport. The surrounding forest is a mix of exotic plantation and native bush, with the trails weaving over small hills.
