About this race
The Tarawera Ultra-Trail 100 Mile is the longest course of New Zealand's largest trail running event, a point-to-point journey through the forests and lakes surrounding Rotorua in the Bay of Plenty. Starting on the south-eastern side of Rotorua near the Redwoods, the route heads out through the forest and then makes a large circuit of the lakes to the east, including Lake Tarawera. Across the full distance runners pass eight lakes, waterfalls, clear streams and stands of native forest, on terrain that is mostly forest trail and track with only short paved sections. The profile is hilly, with several long climbs and descents, and the finish is on the Rotorua lakefront at the Village Green on Lakefront Drive. The course is part of the UTMB World Series.
