Runaway Auckland Marathon

The Barfoot & Thompson Runaway Auckland Marathon starts on King Edward Parade in Devonport and finishes at Victoria Park near the Auckland CBD. From Devonport the marathon route heads through Takapuna and onto the Northern Busway before crossing the Auckland Harbour Bridge, taking in sweeping views over the Waitematā Harbour and Rangitoto Island. After descending into the city, the course loops past Westhaven Marina and the Viaduct Harbour, then continues along Auckland's waterfront on an out-and-back stretch to St Heliers Bay before returning to finish at Victoria Park. Terrain is entirely sealed road and path, with rolling terrain through the first half around the bridge and North Shore roads, giving way to a flatter, faster second half along the harbourside with two small bridge rises. The route passes beaches, marinas and city streets, making it one of New Zealand's most scenic road marathons.
